  • [By Charles Sizemore]

ARCP has a shorter trading history than some of its peers, such as Realty Income (O) and National Retail Properties (NNN), which largely explains why its yield is higher. As a relatively new REIT, ARCP stock is largely unfollowed by investors. But once its merger with Cole Properties (COLE) is completed, ARCP will be the largest trip-net REIT by market cap and total square footage, and it will no longer be flying under Wall Street radar.

  • [By Brad Thomas]

Finally, here's the report card. Agree has racked up a year-over-year total return of 43.19%. That's not bad, especially when you consider the noise generated by the big boys: Realty Income (O) 32.66%; National Retail Properties (NNN) 47.44%; W.P. Carey (WPC) 57.84%; Spirit Realty (SRC) 35.44%; and American Realty Capital Properties 52.18%.

Telephone and utility shares helped lead a retreat in companies that offer stable earnings and high dividends as Exelon Corp. and Verizon Communications Inc. tumbled at least 5.7 percent. Financial and technology stocks were the only groups with gains among the S&P 500 (SPX) 10 main industries. Bank of America Corp. and Morgan Stanley jumped more than 3 percent as Moody Investors Service lifted its outlook for the U.S. banking system. EMC (EMC) Corp. rose 4.7 percent after expanding its share buyback plan and starting a quarterly dividend.

  • [By Anders Bylund]

Verizon is not bad choice for this consulting deal, given the company's wealth of experience in computer networking. The company just hired data security expert Eddie Schwartz from storage giant EMC (NYSE: EMC  ) , and his expertise might come in handy for the HealthCare.gov project as well.

    3. Power to the people
If the current royal regime is any evidence, George is going to be around for a long time to come. Although it's not as fun as a toy or as fast as a car, the prince needs to consider long-term income earners as well. British-American utility PP&L (NYSE: PPL  ) puts electricity in the homes of his subjects, while offering a delectable 4.7% dividend on the side. With share prices still wobbling around recession-level lows, you and George could benefit from a long-term value grab as economies (eventually) pick up in the years to come.

  • [By Zacks Investment Research]

It is hard to find a good play in the Zacks Industry of mining non-ferrous metals, as the industry currently has a rank of 247 out of 261. In fact, in our five mining industries, there are only two No. 1-Ranked stocks: Brigus Gold (BRD) and Impala (IMPUY.PK). Both of these are in struggling industries, but they have proven to be best-in-class thanks to improving earnings estimates. Plus, both have seen their ranks surge from holds (or worse) up to strong buy territory, suggesting either of these names might be better picks than the struggling SCCO at this time.
